Why Soy?
Soy’s greatest advantage is that it is completely renewable. Most candles are made with petroleum based wax, which consumes our shrinking reserves. The only limit to the soy supply is how much we choose to grow.

So why the name Wickie?
Back in the days when lighthouses were not automated and were staffed by humans the wick’s on the oil lamps that helped guide mariners through dangerous waters needed to be trimmed regularly. This was generally done by the lighthouse keeper and they were nicknamed Wickie’s. So it seems fitting that with so many lighthouses in our piece of paradise that the company would be named after the keepers of the light.

Why
Soybeans?
The United States grows the vast majority of the worlds soybeans, primarily in Iowa, Illinois and Indiana.
Soy wax is a vegetable wax made from the oil of soybeans. After harvesting, the beans are cleaned, cracked, dehulled and rolled into flakes. The oil is then extracted from the flakes and hydrogenated.
The hydrogenation process converts some of the fatty acids in the oil from unsaturated to saturated. This process dramatically alters the melting point of the oil, making it a solid at room temperature. The leftover bean husks are then commonly used as animal feed.
